WHY WE ACT, WHY YOU ACT?

There are so many reasons to act, and so many inspiring quotes from working actors. Which person inspires you to take your work as an actor to the next level? Dame Judy Dench? Leo DiCaprio? Tom Hanks? Michael Fassbender? 

The first question I ask my students is, "Why do you want to be an actor?" Decide, and decide quickly, because if you can answer that question, it will get you through many difficult times in the industry. What do you love about story telling? What stories do you want to tell? I hope you can grab a couple of these jewels and find the reasons, or a reason, to motivate you to be the best storyteller you can be. What ever you choose, it will be personal to you, and only you. There is no one-size-fits-all reason as to why we act. Everyone has their own personal fingerprint; whatever it is should make your heart pitter-patter when you pick up a script, start a class, or have the opportunity to play another human being.

Again, why do you want to act? Make it personal, own it, and begin there.
